Redeemer’s University Pro-Chancellor Urges Research Investment

Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University

Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, has urged education stakeholders and corporate organisations to increase investments in research and scholarship.

His remarks were made during the public launch of seven books by Prof. Tunde Ope-Davies, the Founder of the Centre for Digital Humanities at UNILAG, in Lagos.

Speaking on “The Power of Research and Scholarship in Human Capital Development and Societal Advancement,” Ogundipe highlighted limited funding and the pressure for quick results as significant challenges facing African research. He emphasised that the digital revolution and new analytical tools now provide unprecedented opportunities for collaboration and innovation.

He praised Ope-Davies for three decades of pioneering work, describing him as an “incurable mentor” whose scholarship has significantly contributed to human capital development. Prof. Ogundipe stressed that societies that neglect research risk stagnation, noting that evidence-based approaches are now critical to national progress.

He lauded Ope-Davies’ consistent rigour, practical relevance, and dedication, noting that the launch of the seven books reflects nearly 30 years of intellectual commitment and serves as a model for leveraging research to address societal needs.
