Chula and NUS Sign MOU to Advance Environmental Research and Promote International Sustainable Development
In Singapore, researchers from Thailand and Singapore met to explore hands-on solutions for environmental challenges facing their countries.
At the National University of Singapore’s Environmental Research Institute (NERI), Assoc.
Prof. Dr Pantawat Sampanpanish of Chulalongkorn University signed a formal agreement on behalf of his institution. The memorandum of understanding outlines joint research projects in natural resource and environmental management, as well as capacity-building programmes for young scientists.
Participants spent the day discussing how to share scientific methods, exchange knowledge, and develop technologies to respond to climate change and ecosystem shifts. Prof. Dr Srilert Chotpantarat from Chulalongkorn University and Prof. Dr Sanjay Swarup of NERI joined the signing, highlighting the collaborative effort’s focus on practical, data-driven research.
The agreement also includes structured opportunities for early-career researchers to work in both Singapore and Thailand, giving them direct exposure to field studies and lab-based environmental projects.
Dr Sampanpanish described the collaboration as a chance for scientists to see the tangible impact of their work on communities and ecosystems. At the same time, NUS officials noted the importance of hands-on engagement for students and researchers.
The partnership marks a step toward strengthening cross-border environmental research in Southeast Asia.
