The Jigawa State Government has directed 244 teachers, whose salaries were stopped for abandoning their duties, to repay all salaries received during their absence.
Executive Secretary of Jigawa State Universal Basic Education, SUBEB, Prof. Haruna Musa, disclosed this while reacting to the fate of the affected teachers. The Daily Post reported that the Board suspended four education secretaries and withheld the salaries of some teachers for neglecting their duties. He said the affected teachers have abandoned their schools for several months but continue to collect salaries.
Haruna explained that some of the teachers hired someone with no teaching qualifications and background to cover for them, and when they receive their salary, they only give them N20,000, N10,000, or even N5,000 every month.
