RRIN Marks Three Years of Leadership Under Dr Dongo

Staff at the Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria (RRIN) are reflecting on three years of leadership under Executive Director Dr Lelia Nkechiyere Dongo, whose tenure has coincided with efforts to modernise research and strengthen staff engagement.

During an internal session to mark the anniversary, Dr Dongo highlighted initiatives aimed at enhancing research capacity, strengthening institutional structures, and fostering partnerships with local communities and stakeholders. She also emphasised sustainability and innovation as guiding principles for the institute’s future.

Staff members described the period as one of renewed collaboration and morale, noting improvements in project coordination and a stronger sense of collective purpose. “Working under her leadership has encouraged us to engage more actively with research and community outreach,” one researcher said.

Dr Dongo, a specialist in agronomy, said the progress reflected the institute’s dedication to supporting Nigeria’s agricultural sector through practical research and capacity building. She pledged to continue focusing on innovations that can benefit farmers and local industries.

The anniversary provided an opportunity for reflection on how leadership at research institutes can impact both staff motivation and the broader impact of scientific work in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
