The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Ishaq Oloyede, has said that removing Mathematics as an admission requirement for students seeking to study arts and humanities will help reduce cases of forgery and examination malpractice.
Speaking at the launch of Jihad Week and Ad-Dhikr Magazine at the University of Ibadan on Sunday, Oloyede explained that the policy, though long existing, had not been fully implemented until recently when the Ministry of Education aligned it with current realities.
He questioned why candidates studying languages like Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, or Arabic should be denied admission for lacking Mathematics, noting that foreign universities already accommodate such flexibility. “The Ministry’s decision reflects the need to prevent document forgery and ensure fairness in admissions,” he said.
Addressing Muslim students, Oloyede urged members of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) to serve as paragons of moral conduct and unity within society.
Other speakers, including MUSWEN Vice President Alhaji Rafiu Ebiti, emphasised the organisation’s ongoing role in promoting Islamic education and national development.
