Fifteen graduating students from Brilliant Footsteps International Academy in Sokoto have built an electric vehicle as their final-year project. The innovation was unveiled on Saturday, with the school’s General Managing Director, Professor Shadi Sabeh, describing it as a milestone in promoting practical, skills-based education in Nigeria. Sabeh, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of ICONIC Open University, said the project was executed in partnership with the Micro Electric Vehicle Company.
“The vehicle was built entirely from scratch by 15 students—10 girls and five boys—as part of our commitment to bridging the gap between theory and practical knowledge,” he said. Sabeh noted that all materials were locally sourced, making the project both affordable and environmentally sustainable. He said the initiative aims to shift the focus from rote learning to functional education, equipping students to solve real-world problems.
Students Ahmed Shadi, Yusuf Gandi, and Aisha Ahmed, who spoke on behalf of the team, stated that the vehicle was constructed with three core components—mechanical, electrical, and bodywork—and had passed all safety and durability tests. They added that the battery system could sustain the vehicle for up to seven hours on a full charge.
