Damilare, a recent graduate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has emerged with a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.00 in Cell Biology and Genetics, attributing his academic success to mentorship, discipline, and faith.
In an interview, Damilare stated that mentorship played a crucial role in his achievements. “I was introduced to high-performing seniors early in my academic journey who guided me on how to prepare, prioritise, and manage pressure,” he said. He also credited the enabling environment in his department and support from his course adviser. Despite battling a severe illness in his first semester, Damilare maintained excellent grades. “I knew excuses would not explain my results after four years. That fear pushed me,” he said.
He also led football teams on campus and co-founded TechBio, a platform that provides free data science training to students. He said his faith provided emotional resilience and clarity, particularly during challenging moments. Now an Ogun State Education Ambassador, he plans to support public school students through digital training and capacity-building programmes. He is also pursuing opportunities to further his education abroad, to contribute to Nigeria’s development through science, policy, and innovation.
