Senator Bode Olajumoke Calls for Private Support to Boost Education Funding in Nigeria

Senator Bode Olajumoke

Former Senator Dr Bode Olajumoke has stated that the Nigerian government alone cannot provide sufficient funding for education, urging private individuals and philanthropists to step in and support the sector. He made this call during the launch of the Bode Olajumoke Education and Hospitality Initiative (BOEHI), a foundation aimed at creating educational opportunities for vulnerable children and helping deserving adults achieve their academic goals.

Olajumoke explained that education is vital for breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering disadvantaged children to build a better future. He pointed out that many talented children across Nigeria lack access to quality education due to financial difficulties.

The new foundation intends to provide resources, scholarships, and support to bridge this gap.

The BOEHI board chairman, Mr Ade Ayeni, added that the foundation will support indigent but brilliant students nationwide, including Abuja.

He said the initiative aims to mobilise resources to give grants, bursaries, and scholarships to those who need them most.

Ayeni also revealed plans to organise school debates, lectures, drama, and an annual essay competition to encourage academic excellence.

The foundation’s first event is scheduled for July 1, 2025, coinciding with Dr Olajumoke’s 81st birthday.

The event will award scholarships and bursaries to deserving students.

Honourable Bode Ayorinde, founder of Achievers University, praised the foundation, saying it reflects Senator Olajumoke’s lifelong commitment to education and service.

He said the foundation will continue to support vulnerable Nigerians and ensure Olajumoke’s legacy lives on through education.

The BOEHI foundation represents a call for collective responsibility to support education beyond government efforts, aiming to give Nigerian children the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
