Dr Offiong Jarigbe, wife of the Senate Committee Chairman on Gas, has earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Enterprise from Base University, Abuja, and called on Nigerian politicians to encourage their spouses to pursue higher education.
Speaking at a weekend reception following her award, Dr Jarigbe emphasised that modern Nigerian universities now possess the intellectual capacity and teaching tools to attract both local and foreign students. She urged men to view women as equal partners in nation-building, noting that the outdated perception of women’s roles is no longer relevant.
“Gone are the days when women were only seen as good in the kitchen. Our universities are equipped with renowned professors and modern facilities to compete globally,” she said.
Over 45 wives of senators attended the event, where Senator Jarigbe emphasised the importance of continuous education and retraining women to contribute effectively to national development. He encouraged men to actively support their spouses in furthering their education.
