The Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB) has urged the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to release previously approved broadcast licences for universities and polytechnics.
SNB President, Prof. Umaru Pate, appealed on Saturday at the 2nd Annual SNB Conference in Kano, themed “Broadcasting Ethics and Professionalism in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” He described the suspension of campus station licences as disruptive to students’ practical training, essential for preparing future broadcasters.
“Several institutions, including my own, were approved for licences but later informed that authorisation was put on hold without explanation,” Pate said, stressing that hands-on experience is critical in broadcast journalism.
He added that the conference theme reflects the growing impact of artificial intelligence on global broadcasting and highlights ongoing discussions on ethics and professionalism in Nigerian media.
Representing Kano State Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Director-General, Media and Publicity, lauded SNB for hosting the event in Kano, noting the state’s support for the development of broadcasting professionals.
