Sokoto State Government has announced plans to fully digitalise its basic and secondary education system within the next two years.
Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto described the initiative as a significant step to improve teaching quality, strengthen supervision, and enhance policy implementation across schools.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmed Ala, said the digital system will rely on the Education Management Information System (EMIS) to boost efficiency in record keeping and development planning.
“So far, the digital platform has allowed us to rank schools based on performance. Schools scoring 14 points and above are rated very good, while those with six points or less are considered poor,” he said.
Professor Ala added that a Teachers Management Information System (TMIS) will also be introduced to manage staff data, track classroom activities, and monitor teacher performance transparently.
The state has trained 2,500 teachers to prepare for the digitalisation initiative, aiming to strengthen competence and improve learning outcomes for students. Officials said the reforms are part of a broader effort to modernise Sokoto’s education sector and support sustainable growth in academic standards over the next two years.
