A 200-level Political Science student at Al-Qalam University, Katsina, Mohammed Yakubu, has organised a seven-day prayer session calling for Vice President Kashim Shettima to retain his position in the 2027 elections.
The event, which concluded on Friday, was held at Maranta Sheikh Abba Abu, Kofar Kwaya, Katsina, and was attended mainly by young clerics, according to Yakubu, who issued a statement.
“Shettima has been my role model, and seeing how he has helped President Bola Tinubu run the country, they both deserve our prayers,” the 18-year-old student said. He urged young Nigerians to pray for their leaders rather than criticise them, particularly in the context of rising insecurity across parts of the country.
Yakubu cited Shettima’s leadership and contributions to youth and farmers as inspiration for the prayers. He also called on governments at all levels to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity.
The prayer session comes amid speculation within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) about Shettima’s place on the 2027 ticket. The party leadership has dismissed the claims, but discussions continue among supporters.
Earlier this week, President Tinubu celebrated Shettima’s 59th birthday, describing him as a “loyal partner” whose dedication confirmed his choice as deputy.
