Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has warned that any teacher who skips work or abandons duty will be punished. He gave the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) full support to discipline such teachers.
The governor made this clear through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Mr. Peter Ahemba, during a press briefing in Lafia. He said it is no longer business as usual and that lazy teachers, including headmasters, will be sacked.
Governor Sule praised the new NSUBEB Chairman, Kassim Mohammed, for introducing reforms aimed at improving primary school education in the state. He also revealed that the board will recruit 4,700 new teachers and continue the renovation and construction of primary schools in all 13 local governments. Governor Sule urged all teachers to take their work seriously, stating that those who are not ready to work should consider resigning. He promised more support for education reforms.
