Three former students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, have been honoured as Fellows of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL). They are Professors Gbemisola Adeoti and Akinwumi Ogundiran, and Dr Lasisi Olagunju.
Prof. Adeoti, a poet and literature expert, was elected as a regular fellow. He studied Dramatic Arts and Literature at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU) and became a professor of English in 2010. His books Naked Soles and Stoning the Wind are well-known.
Prof. Ogundiran, an archaeologist and historian, was elected as an overseas fellow. He graduated with a First-Class from OAU and later studied in Ibadan and Boston. He is famous for his work on Yoruba civilisation.
Dr Olagunju, a top journalist with the Saturday Tribune, was named an honorary fellow. Prof. Siyan Oyeweso praised the trio, calling them “worthy ambassadors of Great Ifẹ” whose work has impacted Nigeria’s academic and cultural space.
