President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new governing councils and leadership for two federal universities of education, recently upgraded from colleges.
At Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano, Abdurrazaq Abubakar Nakore, an engineer and former Executive Secretary of Jigawa’s Rural Electricity Board, was appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. In contrast, Prof. Abdullahi Tukur Kodage was appointed as Vice Chancellor to oversee academic and administrative affairs.
In Zaria, Kaduna State, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, a science education scholar and current Vice Chancellor of Saadatu Rimi University of Education, Kano, was appointed Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria.
According to the government, both appointments are aimed at strengthening leadership and ensuring smooth academic growth as the universities transition into fully operational tertiary institutions. Pro-Chancellors serve four-year terms, while Vice Chancellors hold office for five years.
The move reflects the federal government’s ongoing effort to expand access to quality higher education and consolidate the status of newly upgraded universities.
