The United States Mission in Nigeria has cautioned Nigerian students on U.S. visas against skipping academic activities, warning that it could result in visa revocation or future denial.
In an advisory issued via its social media channels, the mission reminded students under the F-1 and J-1 visa categories that consistent class attendance is a key requirement. It noted that any deviation from study obligations may be interpreted as non-compliance with visa terms. The embassy stressed that schools are mandated to report students who fail to meet attendance requirements to the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), which could trigger immigration consequences. Nigerian education stakeholders have urged students studying abroad to take the warning seriously to avoid jeopardising their stay and academic progress.
