The University of Ibadan (UI), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), and several other Nigerian universities have gained international recognition, as a number of their scholars were named among the world’s top 2% of scientists for 2025.
The list, released by the Top Scientists Network (TopSciNet) at Stanford University, ranks researchers worldwide based on their citations, productivity, and overall impact in their fields.
From UI, top psychiatrist Prof. Oye Gureje and neurologist Prof. Mayowa Owolabi were recognised. At the same time, Ahmadu Bello University’s Prof. Shafiu Mohammed, an expert in Global Health Systems and Policy, also made the list.
FUOYE equally made a strong showing, with four of its academics featured: Prof. Olayide Samuel Lawal, Dr Adeolu Adesoji Adediran, Prof. Bukola Olalekan Bolaji, and Prof. Basiru Olaitan Ajiboye.
This international recognition accorded to Nigerian scholars has firmly put Nigerian universities in the spotlight for high-level research, further strengthening their global reputation.
