The University of Ibadan (UI) Transport Association has clarified operations of its campus transport system, addressing concerns over profit margins, student welfare, and its relationship with the Student Union Government (SUG).
Chairman of the association, Mr. Joseph Temitope, popularly known as Dangote, said the association operates strictly under the policies and guidelines of the university management. He dismissed speculations of a cosy relationship with the SUG, insisting their dealings are strictly professional.
“We work with the SUG to ensure that the transport system meets students’ needs, but we have no undue influence or control over them. Our accountability is to the university management,” he stated.
Temitope explained that while the system provides essential services for students and job opportunities for drivers, profit margins remain a significant challenge. He said drivers struggle to meet family needs, calling for a review of fare structures to improve their welfare. “We are not looking to exploit students. We just want drivers to earn a decent living,” he said.
