UNIABUJA Law Students to Honour Falana

Barr. Femi Falana (SAN)

The University of Abuja chapter of the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) will honour renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), for his decades of advocacy for justice and democracy.

According to LAWSAN President, Muhammed Akingbolu, the award ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 13, as part of activities marking the Faculty of Law’s Beginning of Legal Year. Falana will also deliver the keynote address at the event.

Akingbolu described Falana as “a lifelong defender of truth, justice, and equity,” whose activism has inspired generations of lawyers. He credited Falana and his contemporaries, including Gani Fawehinmi, Bola Ige, and Beko Ransome-Kuti, for laying the foundations of Nigeria’s democratic system.

The event will feature moot court sessions, debates, and essay competitions designed to promote students’ legal and intellectual development.

Falana will receive a special title, “Senior Advocate of the Masses (SAM),” in recognition of his commitment to the oppressed. Akingbolu also thanked the Dean of Law, Uwakwe Abugu, and Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mathew Adamu, for supporting student-led initiatives.
