The University of Abuja has warned prospective students against falling victim to fraudulent social media posts promising admission through WhatsApp numbers.
A Facebook post circulating in August claimed the university’s 2025/2026 Post-UTME screening form was available and urged candidates to contact a number for “smart registration and admission processing”. It also gave false dates for registration. The university announced its official screening exercise on August 14, stating that registration closes on September 5. It provided a link for candidates to apply, but made no mention of WhatsApp contacts.
In a disclaimer issued on August 24, the university stated that scammers were targeting applicants with fake notices, cloned websites, and fraudulent phone calls. It stressed that admissions are only processed through official platforms. “Our attention has been drawn to fraudulent activities by individuals falsely claiming to offer admission into the institution, often in exchange for money or personal favours,” the statement read.
The university urged applicants to rely solely on verified communication channels. Official enquiries can be made through its website or by contacting 0903 683 6734 and 0815 581 0940.
