The University of Benin has been named among eight federal universities selected to benefit from the federal government’s Solar Minigrid Energising Education Programme.
The signing ceremony, which took place in Abuja, was supervised by the Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, who charged Vice-Chancellors to be innovative and to take advantage of the federal government’s initiatives to advance the course of higher education in the country.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, was represented at the ceremony by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Victor Igbineweka.
The project, executed under Phase IV of the Rural Electrification Programme, is expected to provide a 24-hour power supply to the institution upon completion.
The Vice-Chancellor’s representative, Prof. Igbineweka, signed the agreement on behalf of the University of Benin, and the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Engr. Abba Aliyu, on behalf of the federal government.
