The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has appointed renowned U.S.-based Nigerian doctor, Dr Olurotimi Badero, as a Distinguished Fellow and Visiting Professor of Medicine. Dr Badero will serve in the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Clinical Sciences.
Dr Badero is globally known as the world’s first and only board-certified interventional cardio-nephrologist. He is expected to mentor young Nigerian doctors, particularly in the fields of heart and kidney care.
Speaking about his appointment, Dr Badero said he is committed to building local expertise and helping Nigerian doctors compete globally. UNILAG and Iwosan Lagoon Hospital, where he also works part-time, have praised the move as a significant step in enhancing Nigeria’s medical education. Dr Badero, a proud son of Isonyin in Ogun State, is regarded as a source of pride for his community. His work in Nigeria will involve mentoring, promoting research, and contributing to the improvement of healthcare through the application of global best practices.
