The Faculty of Arts, University of Lagos (UNILAG), will mark its 60th anniversary with the launch of a N500 million endowment fund to support indigent students.
The celebration, themed “Humanities as the Tech Solution to Global Crisis in 21st Century Africa,” will highlight the role of the humanities in tackling issues such as governance, climate change, artificial intelligence, migration, and sustainable development.
Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Francis Shonubi, stated that the anniversary events will include a gala night and an award dinner on October 25, 2025, at the Protea by Marriott Select Hotel, Alausa, Lagos. The event will gather academics, policymakers, alumni, diplomats, and cultural leaders.
For six decades, the Faculty of Arts—popularly called “The Home of Letters”—has been a hub of scholarship and cultural advancement in Nigeria and Africa. The planned fund aims to secure access to education for disadvantaged students while strengthening the faculty’s legacy.
