The Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, has deployed 2,270 student-teachers for its 2025/2026 teaching practice exercise. The programme, which begins on September 22, will run for 12 weeks across primary and secondary schools in Lagos State.
Speaking at the orientation on Wednesday, Dean of the Faculty, Professor Simeon Oladipo, urged the students to embrace diversity, avoid discrimination, and cultivate adaptability. He encouraged them to see themselves as advocates of inclusion and lifelong learning.
Chairperson of the Teaching Practice Committee, Professor Adeola Afonja, described the exercise as crucial to preparing future educators. She advised the students to remain patient, observant and respectful in their classrooms, noting that teaching practice was an integral part of their professional growth.
Guest lecturers, including Dr Jacob Adeyanju and Professor Oyenike Adeosun, emphasised the importance of ethics, interaction and familiarity with education policies. Heads of departments also reminded the students to act as ambassadors of the university, maintain discipline and uphold professional standards.
Teaching Practice Coordinator, Dr Stella Anyama, confirmed that the faculty had made preparations to support the students throughout the exercise.
