UNILAG Medical Centre commemorate its 13th Annual Health Week with a campus-wide rally to mark World AIDS Day
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Medical Centre has marked the 13th Annual Health Week with a campus-wide rally to commemorate World AIDS Day.
The event, which began at the Senate House car park, saw participants move through faculties including Arts, Engineering, Law, Management Sciences, Science, Social Sciences, and the UNILAG International School, engaging students and staff in HIV/AIDS awareness.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Foluso Afolabi Lesi, representing Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade Ogunsola, commended the Medical Centre for sustaining the annual initiative. He highlighted the progress made in combating HIV/AIDS and encouraged the university community to prioritise regular medical check-ups and make use of affordable treatment available at the centre.
Chairman of the Medical Centre Management Board, Professor Abiola Oduwole, and Director of Medical Services, Dr Olayinka Coker, thanked staff and faculty members for their participation and support in the sensitisation campaign.
The rally emphasised the ABCD approach—Abstinence, Being careful, Condom usage, and Drug avoidance—and promoted safe sexual practices, faithful partnerships, and support rather than stigma for people living with HIV.
Health Week continued with a public lecture on adolescent abuse and a medical screening and wellness seminar, reinforcing the university’s commitment to student and staff health.
