The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Security Unit recently held a special parade in honour of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, at its Alpha Base headquarters in Yaba. The event was organised to show appreciation and reaffirm the loyalty of the security team to the university. The parade brought together members of the Security Unit from different formations, officers of the Nigerian Legion Corps, Man ‘O’ War, and other security stakeholders.
During the event, the Coordinator of the Security Unit, Mr. David Omotosho, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for her continued support. He said the parade was a sign of the Unit’s dedication to keeping the UNILAG campus safe. Mr Omotosho also appreciated the Nigeria Police Force, NDLEA, and other agencies for their partnership, which has helped keep UNILAG one of the safest campuses in Nigeria.
He appealed to the university management to help increase the number of security staff, explaining that the current team is overstretched. “We are committed to securing UNILAG to the core,” he said. “Our loyalty is undivided, and we remain dedicated.”
In her response, Prof. Ogunsola thanked the entire Security Unit for their service and commitment. She also praised the cooperation of the Nigerian Police, NDLEA, and other security agencies over the years. She noted the current staff shortage in the Security Unit but promised that the university would do everything possible to maintain peace and safety. She encouraged the officers to adopt technology while maintaining their moral integrity in the performance of their duties. “A safe UNILAG is a prosperous UNILAG,” she said. Highlights of the event included the presentation of plaques to the Vice-Chancellor and other key stakeholders who have supported the university’s security efforts.
