The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has again been rated as the top university in Nigeria. This is according to the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
Released on October 9, 2025, the rankings placed UNILAG and the University of Ibadan jointly in the 801–1000 band globally, out of over 2,100 institutions assessed worldwide. Covenant University and Bayero University, Kano, followed in the 1001–1200 range.
UNILAG’s performance was measured across key areas such as teaching, research quality, research environment, industry links, and international outlook. Outside Nigeria, UNILAG shares its global ranking range with top institutions like the University of Cape Coast in Ghana and Cairo University in Egypt.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, praised the university community, alumni, and stakeholders for their support, saying the achievement reflects UNILAG’s commitment to excellence in education, research, and innovation on both national and global stages.
