University of Ilorin Hosts Italian Students for Academic Exchange

Prof Wahab Egbewole, Vice Chancellor, UNILORIN

Five students from the University of Torino, Italy, have completed a four-week academic exchange at the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law at the University of Ilorin.
The programme, which ran from mid-October to November 2025, exposed participants to Nigerian legal systems, including courses on Islamic Law and the Constitution that were not available at their home university. Students also engaged in interactive classes and campus activities as part of the exchange.

During a farewell meeting with University Management on Thursday, the delegation discussed their academic and cultural experiences in Nigeria. Team leader Alessandro Dafama, who adopted the Nigerian name Olusegun, noted the differences in teaching approaches, while others highlighted cultural observations and local practices encountered during their stay.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, said the programme aimed to facilitate cross-border academic collaboration and exchange of ideas. The department highlighted that such initiatives offer students opportunities to study legal pluralism in practical contexts and to understand the intersection of culture and law.

The exchange forms part of UNILORIN’s ongoing international partnerships designed to broaden student perspectives and foster collaborative research between Nigerian and European institutions. Further programmes are planned to expand the reach of academic exchanges across multiple faculties.
