Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, is investigating the sad death of Isabella Ajana, a 100-level Law student who died from diabetic complications after being locked out of her hostel room. The incident happened at Emalda Hostel, a private hostel near the school. Isabella and her roommates were locked out on June 27, and she could not get her insulin, which was inside the room. The hostel custodian, who had the spare key, was reportedly out of State.
By the time the room was finally opened on Monday, July 1, Isabella’s health had worsened. She was rushed to the school medical centre and later referred to the teaching hospital. After a few days in the hospital, she passed away on Friday, July 4. Her death has caused anger among students and sparked calls for better hostel management and emergency care for students living off-campus
