UNN VC Seeks AgriDI’s Inclusion in National Budget

Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, the Vice Chancellor of UNN

Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has urged the federal government (FG) to include Agri-based Digital Innovations (AgriDi) research programmes in its 2026 budget.

The Vice-Chancellor appealed at the close-out meeting of the Accelerating Inclusive Green Growth through Agri-based Digital Innovation in West Africa (AgriDi).

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor applauded the FG’s expansive 2025 budget and expressed optimism that AgriDi would be included in the 2026 budget.

He expressed, “Our appeal is that AgriDi should be included in the 2026 budget. This will help the team avoid completely depending on foreign donors. Just last week, the Enugu State government presented a budget of N1.6 trillion, with agriculture having a fair share. It is appreciated, but including AGriDi will further strengthen the research project.”
