The United Nations University on E-Governance (UNU-EGOV) reviewed 151 research papers on digital transformation and e-governance, aiming to advance Africa’s economic development. The papers, submitted by over 308 authors worldwide, were presented during the 18th ICEGov conference at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.
The conference, organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), drew 508 participants from 51 countries under the theme, “Shaping the Future of Digital Governance through Cooperation, Innovation and Inclusion.”
At the closing ceremony, UNU-EGOV Director Delfina Soares commended Nigeria’s investments in digital infrastructure and citizen training, noting the country’s commitment to its digital transformation agenda.
Prof. Adegboyega Ojo of Carleton University highlighted the conference as a platform for governments to explore the role of technology in improving governance and service delivery.
Special Assistant on Innovation and Research to NITDA, Lukman Lamid, stated that the conference’s recommendations would inform Nigeria’s digital economy framework.
Dr Robert Ifeonu of the Central Bank of Nigeria, winner of the research paper category, emphasised the importance of innovative approaches to avoid repeated failures in public sector digital projects.
