Mrs. Leila Fowler, founder of the Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls in Lagos, has died at the age of 91. The school announced her passing in a statement, describing her as a trailblazing educator, lawyer, and philanthropist who devoted her life to advancing girls’ education in Nigeria.
Fowler established the all-girls institution in 1991 with a mission to promote excellence, leadership, and empowerment. Over the years, the college became one of the country’s leading schools for girls, noted for academic rigour and character development.
A graduate of CMS Girls’ School, Lagos, Fowler later studied in London before returning to Nigeria to pursue her professional and philanthropic interests. She was widely respected as a devout Christian, music enthusiast, and mentor to both students and teachers.
In its tribute, the institution described her as a “motherly figure whose warmth and vision created not only a school, but a lasting community of empowerment.”
