Umaru Musa Yar’adua University in Katsina has expelled 57 students for cheating during examinations. The university decided after a meeting of its Senate, following investigations by the Central Examination Misconduct Committee. The probe covered several departments and found students guilty of different kinds of examination malpractice.
In addition to the expulsions, five students were suspended for two semesters. Their examination papers were also cancelled. Two other students were given official warnings, which will remain on their school records. The university says it is committed to upholding academic honesty and will not tolerate cheating. The announcement was made in a statement by the school’s Head of Information, Hajiya Fatima Sanda. This action is part of the school’s effort to maintain discipline and protect the value of its certificates.
