Participants at the one-day symposium on cybersecurity organised by the Yobe State Government

Reaffirming its commitment to digital safety and responsible information use, the Yobe State Government has organised a one-day symposium on cybersecurity-themed “Contemporary Challenges and Solutions.” The event was held in collaboration with the Office of the Honorary Special Adviser on Policy Delivery and the State’s Cyber and Information Technology Office.

The symposium focused on proactive strategies for combating cybercrime and promoting safer online practices. Dr Kole Shettima, Special Adviser on Policy Delivery, emphasised the importance of public education on cybersecurity risks and the double-edged nature of technological advancement.

Abdulmumin Kolo Gulani, the State’s Focal Person on Cyber and Information Technology, warned against the unregulated circulation of sensitive material, particularly terrorism-related content. He urged participants to adopt responsible and secure online behaviours.

The event featured presentations by leading experts, including Zainab O. Sanni, Dr Musa Usman, Dr Aliyu Bade, and retired Major General GS Abdullahi. Discussions covered a range of pressing issues, including cyber threats, fake news, and social engineering.

With participants drawn from schools, the civil service, and security agencies, the symposium underscored Yobe State’s growing role in promoting digital awareness and cybersecurity resilience. The initiative aligns with Governor Mai Mala Buni’s inclusive governance model, which prioritises capacity building and technological preparedness across the state.
