Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has pledged support for the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, the first institution of its kind in northern Nigeria.
Lawal, represented by Head of Service Yakubu Sani Haidara, said the university would expand access to advanced medical training and position Zamfara as a hub for healthcare innovation. He commended Senator Ikira Bilbis for championing the project.
The inauguration of the university’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, took place on Wednesday at the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja. Education Minister Maruf Alausa described the institution as a centre of excellence expected to drive education, healthcare and regional growth.
Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad, said the creation of health sciences and technology universities was part of the federal government’s plan to expand access to higher education and support the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Professor Yakasai, a gynaecologist and President of the West African College of Surgeons, pledged to build a strong foundation and make Tsafe conducive for learning. He will be supported by a pioneering management team, including a registrar, bursar, and librarian.
