Two thousand young Nigerians are to receive free training in electric vehicle (EV) maintenance and manufacturing under a new partnership between the Youth in Parliament Forum (YIPF) and CAWIN Mobility Limited.
The programme, launched in Abuja on Thursday, aims to prepare young people for careers in renewable energy and green transportation.
Tony Nwulu, director-general of YIPF, said the initiative would help build local capacity as EVs gradually enter the Nigerian market. “One of the biggest challenges will be who services electric vehicles when they develop faults. This programme equips 2,000 youths with the skills to fill that gap,” he said.
The training, which begins this month, will target 1,000 engineering students and 1,000 mechanics from across the country. Participants will also gain access to incubation support and advanced research opportunities in partnership with universities.
CAWIN Mobility’s managing director, Wayne Ji, said Nigeria’s youthful population could drive the country’s transition to green mobility. “Investing in young people is investing in the nation’s future,” he said.
The partnership also includes a lawmakers’ vehicle acquisition scheme, giving federal legislators access to electric and conventional cars on flexible terms.
