The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has shortlisted 5,746 Nigerians for interviews as part of its 2025 Overseas Scholarship Scheme. The programme offers full scholarships for Master’s and PhD studies in foreign universities. Of the total, 3,875 applicants are for Master’s, while 1,871 are for PhD programmes.
The interview began in Kaduna, one of six centres across Nigeria. In Kaduna alone, 560 candidates were invited. PTDF stated that the scholarship is available for courses related to the oil and gas sector, including engineering, geosciences, and energy economics.
The interviews for the PTDF scholarship are strictly monitored by the Federal Character Commission to ensure fairness and impartiality. Many candidates expressed hope that the opportunity would enable them to address national problems. For example, a Nigerian Army officer wants to study Nuclear Physics to address corrosion issues in oil pipelines.
