The United States has renewed efforts to attract Nigerian students to its campuses, with 28 American universities participating in the 24th Annual EducationUSA College Fair in Abuja.
The event, organised by the US Embassy and EducationUSA, drew around 4,700 prospective students, parents and educators, making it one of the largest platforms in Nigeria for connecting with US higher education.
Brian Neubert, Public Diplomacy Officer at the US Embassy, said the fair was designed to give students direct access to admissions officers and information on scholarships, financial aid and visa procedures. “Our EducationUSA team offers free counselling services to help prospective students navigate the application process,” he said.
Nigeria remains one of the top sources of African students in the US, with more than 14,000 currently enrolled, particularly in fields such as science, engineering, health, and economics, according to the US Department of State.
Officials emphasised that no applications are submitted or admissions decisions made during the fair, which primarily serves as an information hub.
