AAUA ASUU Suspends 4-Month Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Chapter of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, has called off its 4-month strike over the non-payment of salaries by the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Comrade Boluwaji Oshodi, the chairman of the ASUU AAUA Chapter, disclosed that the union called off the strike after reaching an agreement with the university management.

In a memo shared in August, the union expressed, “But to be sincere, the major problem we are facing is funding. The state government is not funding the university. As I speak, we are owed two months’ salaries (July and August).
“This is aside from several arrears, promotion arrears, excess workload and others running into billions. The state government is not forthcoming. So, we made up our minds that until everything is addressed, we are not going back. “

Sharing the rationale behind calling off the industrial action, Oshodi said, “We are still being owed one month’s salary, but based on our love for the system and our students, we have resolved to suspend the strike.”
