The Abia State University (ABSU) community is in mourning following the death of Michael Wonderful Nikeur, a 100-level student in the Department of Food Science and Technology.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 26, at Las Vegas Lodge, a popular off-campus residence. Lodge residents grew concerned when the quiet, reserved student failed to respond to repeated knocks and phone calls.
Forced entry revealed her lying motionless on the floor. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where her death was later confirmed.
Friends noted that Wonderful had a history of asthma, suggesting a possible attack while alone, though the official cause of death has not yet been determined. Fellow students described her as gentle, focused and reserved.
The tragic loss has left the campus community shocked, particularly fellow first-year students. Authorities and peers have called for heightened attention to student health and well-being, especially for those living alone.
