Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has appointed Prof. M. I. Umar-Buratai to lead an eight-member committee aimed at strengthening the university’s Directorate of Advancement and International Education (DAIE). The committee was officially inaugurated on Thursday, July 17, 2025, by Professor Adamu Ahmed, the Vice-Chancellor.
The primary objective is to reform and reposition the DAIE for improved performance. Tasks include reviewing old reports, improving fundraising, donor relations, and international partnerships. The committee will also be responsible for examining progress made on projects funded by the MacArthur and Carnegie Foundations.
Prof. Ahmed said the committee should propose clear plans, improve communication strategies, and align with the university’s development goals. The team has eight weeks to complete its work. Prof. Umar-Buratai, a respected academic from the Department of Theatre and Performing Arts, thanked the management and promised to deliver results. The other members are drawn from different departments across the university, ensuring a well-rounded approach.
