The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Professor Adamu Ahmed, has stated that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now a key component of the school’s long-term objectives. He made this known during the 6th Conference of the National Association of Pharmacists in Academia (NAPA) held on the university’s main campus in Zaria on Monday, June 23, 2025.
Speaking through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Advancement, Research, and Innovation, Prof. Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi, the Vice-Chancellor stated that ABU has already begun planning to utilise AI in teaching and learning. He said it was good to see discussions about AI taking place within the university and encouraged participants to develop strong recommendations on how AI can be effectively utilised in education, research, and pharmacy practice.
The keynote speaker, Prof Martins Emeje, spoke on the topic: “Artificial Intelligence in Pharmacy: Transforming Education, Research and Practice for the Future of Healthcare.” He described innovation as more than just creating new products; it is also about creating new value. According to him, it is about finding better and more innovative ways to solve problems and improve lives. He thanked the organisers for inviting him and wished everyone successful discussions.
In a goodwill message, Prof. Sahalu B. Junaidu, Dean of Student Affairs, said that AI can be helpful in every aspect of human life. He noted that the conference theme matched ABU’s focus on technology and AI research. Prof Sahalu also said ABU is among the top schools in Nigeria when it comes to new technologies. The event brought together participants from across the country, all of whom came to share ideas on how AI can help shape the future of pharmacy and education in Nigeria.
