AD Scientific Index Ranks Nigerian Universities

Covenant University, Ota, Nigeria’s leading private university

The AD Scientific Index has ranked Nigerian universities, with Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, ranked as the leading private university.
The 2026 edition of the ranking showed that Nigeria now has 310 universities, comprising 186 public and 124 private universities.

While Covenant University ranks first in Nigeria, it ranks 221st globally, with 16 scientists in the top 10th percentile of success. This shows its growth and influence in engineering, technology, and applied research.

Other institutions on the top-10 list include Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, and Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti. Ekiti State; Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara State; Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State; African University of Science & Technology (AUST), Abuja; Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, and Augustine University, Ilara Epe, Lagos.
