Prof. Christopher Ogbogbo, Vice-Chancellor of Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN), Delta State, has pledged to accelerate academic excellence and infrastructure development as the university transitions into a fully public institution.
Speaking at ADUN’s fourth convocation, Ogbogbo highlighted efforts to attract top academics from across the country and the diaspora, while emphasising the production of globally competitive graduates.
He expressed gratitude to the Delta State Government, traditional rulers, and donors for supporting the university’s growth, especially as student enrollment continues to expand.
Ten of the 72 graduating students earned First Class honours, with others receiving Second and Third Class degrees. The best graduating student, Divine Ikede (Software Engineering), earned a CGPA of 4.99 and N470,000 in prizes, while the best female, Ugwashi Aya (Economics), earned a CGPA of 4.96 and N120,000.
Ogbogbo also announced the launch of postgraduate programmes and stressed the need for adequate infrastructure to match the growing student population. He acknowledged TETFund’s support in critical infrastructure projects.
The convocation lecture, “Developing An Institution In An Economically Challenging Environment,” was delivered by Rainoil MD Dr Gabriel Ogbechie, who shared strategies for institutional sustainability, including endowments, alumni engagement, and regional thought leadership. Honorary degrees were awarded to Emeritus Prof. Augustine Esogbue and Vice-Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla (rtd).
