Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI) is a key Nigerian partner in the EU-funded MIGRATURITY project, a four-year initiative (2025–2028) aimed at strengthening higher education institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa to address migration and security challenges.
The programme brings together universities from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Italy, Serbia, and Turkey to promote good governance, peace, and the rule of law through inclusive, gender-sensitive approaches.
AE-FUNAI, alongside the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), collaborates with leading European institutions, including Union Nikola Tesla University (Serbia), University of Naples Federico II (Italy), and Necmettin Erbakan University (Turkey), to implement seven project work packages covering gender analysis, social inclusion, communication, and project administration.
Prof. Robert Onyeneke, Project Coordinator, highlighted that the initiative will expand AE-FUNAI’s international research footprint, enhance academic programs, inform policy engagement, and strengthen institutional systems responding to migration-related issues in Nigeria and the Sub-Saharan region.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sunday Elom, represented by Deputy VC Academic, Professor Romanus Ejiaga, praised the research team and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to evidence-based research and capacity-building for societal development.
The AE-FUNAI team driving the project includes experts in security studies, gender, social inclusion, and higher education administration.
The consortium’s total grant is €399,834, with AE-FUNAI receiving €39,040 as its share.
