The University of Kabale, the University of Dodoma, and Amref International University have announced a call for applications for research scholarships under the Migration and Displacement Action Plan for Sub-Saharan Africa (MAPS) project. The programme, co-funded by the European Union, aims to build research capacity and find solutions to issues related to migration and forced displacement.
The scholarships are primarily awarded to early-career researchers across Sub-Saharan Africa, with a special focus on vulnerable groups, including women, children, minorities, and persons with disabilities. The research will cover four main areas, including peace, people, planet, and partnerships. This includes topics such as conflict, border policies, human rights, climate change, and the resilience of displaced communities.
Organisers say the initiative aims to enhance understanding of migration dynamics, particularly those triggered by disasters and climate change. It also aims to generate knowledge that will inform more effective policies and foster stronger community support.
The MAPS project underlines the importance of research in tackling displacement and promoting peace in the region.
