The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening postgraduate medical education as part of reforms aimed at improving Nigeria’s health sector.
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammed Ali Pate, gave the assurance at the 43rd convocation of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN), Ijanikin, Lagos. He was represented by Dr Jimoh Salaudeen, Director of Hospital Services at the ministry.
Pate commended the new fellows and diploma recipients, describing them as vital to the country’s specialist healthcare delivery. He praised their perseverance and dedication, noting that such resilience is what the sector needs to meet national health challenges.
The minister emphasised that postgraduate medical training is crucial in building a robust and well-equipped healthcare workforce that can meet the demands of the 21st-century healthcare industry. The pledge reflects the government’s drive to reposition the health sector and expand access to quality care for Nigerians.
