Federal Government Clears the Air on SSCE Core Subjects

The federal government (FG) has mentioned that English and Mathematics are still core subjects in the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

The clarification came after a tertiary admission policy stated that non-science students no longer need Mathematics as an admission requirement.

Boriowo Folasade, the Federal Ministry of Education’s spokesperson, stated, “All students must continue to take both subjects as part of their Senior School Certificate Examinations, as they remain vital components of a sound educational foundation.”

In addition, Dr Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, added that the policy reversal is meant to empower Nigerian youths and make tertiary education accessible to them.
