Akwa Ibom Governor Urged to Rebuild NYSC Camp

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has appealed to Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno to fast-track the upgrade of the state orientation camp at Ikot Itie Udong, describing the existing facility as old, leaking and uninhabitable.

Governor Eno had earlier approved the camp’s reconstruction into modern facilities and increased the monthly allowance for corps members to ₦20,000, a payment that began in August 2025.

During the 2025 Batch C orientation exercise, the State NYSC Coordinator, Samuel Pepple, thanked the governor for the promise but urged urgent action, highlighting the poor state of the camp and the need to protect young Nigerians from across the country. He encouraged corps members to fully participate in camp programmes designed to instil teamwork, discipline, and problem-solving skills.

Represented by Anthony Isonguyoh, Director of Administration and Supplies, Ministry of Youth Development, Governor Eno assured NYSC that work on rebuilding the camp would commence shortly.

He emphasised that the government remained committed to providing a comfortable and productive environment for corps members while urging them to maintain a positive attitude, embrace learning and adapt to innovations.

The swearing-in of the corps members was administered by Justice Edem Akpan, representing the state Chief Judge, Justice Ekaette Obot.
