Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri, has secured a Full Operational Licence from the National Universities Commission (NUC), marking the end of its three-year probation under a provisional permit.
The approval followed a monitoring visit by an NUC delegation between 22 and 24 April 2025, which reviewed the institution’s compliance with academic and operational standards. Officials confirmed the university met all requirements, leading to its endorsement by the Federal Government.
The licence, issued on August 14 2025, grants Al-Ansar University full recognition as a degree-awarding institution. The development allows the university to expand its academic programmes and research activities.
The NUC described the milestone as a step towards strengthening higher education delivery in Nigeria, particularly in the North-East. Al-Ansar, founded by Dr Mohammed Kyari Dikwa, becomes one of the newest fully licensed private universities in the country. With the transition from probationary status, the institution is expected to consolidate its focus on teaching, research and community service while pursuing its stated mission of “Thought and Service.”
